About Us

Ross and Cromarty CAB is over 30 years old and while it is a member of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureau, better known as Citizens Advice Scotland, it is a fully independent and autonomous Bureau.  We provide free, impartial and confidential information and advice to people living within our community.  We are a registered Scottish charity and company and as a voluntary led organisation the majority of our staff are volunteers.

Board of Directors
The board of directors are made up of individuals and representative of organisations living, working and operating in the Ross and Cromarty area.  Board members are responsible for the running of the Bureau, ensuring its independence and integrity.  They are also volunteers who dedicate their time, skills and knowledge into the Bureau.

Like almost all Boards membership can generally only be increased at the AGM but occasionally there are spaced to adopt members throughout the year.  These members are called co-opted members.  If you would like to put yourself forward for membership to the Board please contact the Bureau for details.

Paid Staff
Although the organisation is volunteer led we do have a number of paid staff.  As certain topics of advice have become more complex we have expended the number of paid staff to reflect the current demands.  At the moment we currently employ 13 members of paid staff covering subject like benefits, debt, housing, fuel poverty and NHS complaints and concerns.  Paid staff also train and support volunteers who deliver the bulk of the service.

Volunteers
Although the majority of our work force are unpaid volunteers it would be a mistake to assume this makes it unprofessional.  Our volunteers are put through one of the more thorough training schedules out there, covering a large amount of subject areas.  In addition to this they are given ongoing training and support from both paid members of staff and external partners.  Volunteers also help in other capacities across the Bureau such as admin or specialist roles helping with complex advice work.  If you would like to find out more information about volunteering with the CAB please look under the volunteering page.
